A place of silence and peace

Since the year 1971 the Polish cemetary ground exists in its present form. It has become a place of rememberance of the past as well as a place of reconciliation. On a regular basis the cemetary is visited by Polish and German guests as well as of guests of other nations where services are held. For some time Germans and polish people meet as friends, who have learned from the past.

Engraving on the memorial placque at the shrine of the Polish cemetary:
After the fall of the "German Empire"
up to 20,000 polish had to live close together in the
IRO-camp on the Wildflecken Training Area.
Many children were born. 428 died real young.
Also 116 adults passed away.
Respect for human life created this last resting place.

Mr. Kreuzpaintner is describing the painting at the shrine, which was done by Professor Wejman from the Cracow University and his son.
Adolf Kreuzpaintner from Wildflecken is taking care of the grounds in an exemplary way. Born in Munich, he came to Wildflecken as a soldier in the year 1964. Since he retired a few years ago he is running a tiny museum at the Rhoen-Kaserne and is taking care of unnumerous historical mementos of the garrison as well as the training area.
The Angel of Peace is guiding the souls of all children passed away across the brick walls and barbed wires of the world.........
to a better way of life to our God Father.
